What You Can Expect from your Emergency Dental Appointment

When you’re in the midst of a dental emergency, the help of a compassionate dentist can be invaluable. They’ll be able to help you resolve whatever dental problem you could have, restoring your oral health to absolute perfection.

However, you may naturally wonder what exactly that’s going to look like. If you’re curious, here’s what you could expect from an upcoming emergency appointment.

Step 1: The Emergency Exam

When you first show up to the dentist’s office, the first task will be to discover what it is that’s causing your discomfort. Sometimes this is easy—especially if you’re holding your tooth in your hand. However, it’s also important to make sure that there isn’t any extra damage that you haven’t noticed, or a serious problem that you’ve accidentally missed. In any case, your dentist will take a look at the state of your mouth in order to determine what’s going on and to allow them to plan effectively for the next stage.

Step 2: Treatment

The next step will be to deal with the most pressing issue, the one that brought you to the dentist’s office in the first place. This will obviously look pretty different depending on what problem you’re dealing with, but whatever the case your dentist will be sure to let you know what it is that you’ll need, and present you with the options available to you if there are multiple routes you could go.

Step 3: Follow Up

While there are some dental emergencies that truly come out of nowhere, this isn’t the case for many of them. It could be that you’re suffering from any number of oral health problems, and these will require further intervention in order to deal with the issues that you have.

After you’re feeling better, your dentist will probably take the time to explain what the next steps will look like and schedule you for your next appointments.

As you can see, your dentist will be enormously helpful in ensuring that you’ll get the care that you need. Talk to them and you can expect to feel better in no time at all!
